Is Intermittent Fasting For You?


IF or Intermittent Fasting is becoming more popular recently, even though it is not some revolutionary idea. Is this the next big fitness fad or is there some value in trying it out? Today we're going to dive into what exactly IF is all about, how you implement it, and what it can be used for...

Intermittent Fasting is simply a way of eating. Everybody already fasts for some portion of their day when they're asleep. This simply is an extension of that window of fasting. The most common approach, popularized by several online protocols is the 16/8 window. 16 hours of fasting, and 8 hours of eating. There are other approaches too, such as the 20/4 window. Modest approaches are also suitable such as the 12/12, all depending on your preference. I know many people out there were raised on the idea that for the best results you should be eating every 2-4 hours, constantly fueling your muscles. The so-called horrors await if you do not and all your hard earned gains will be lost! But fear not, this isn't true. As long as you're hitting your daily nutrition goals, then the timing of the nutrients is not as important. Just don't forget quality micronutrients are still just as vital to fuel your performance!



Now, whenever I am experimenting with IF I think it is more beneficial on a weight cut. It happens to be much more challenging trying to fit in all of your daily calories on a bulk or caloric surplus. My favorite approach is a 14-hour fasting window and 10-hour feeding window. I like to space my meals out around every 2 hours with my workout being in somewhere in between this time period. If you are working out fasted then I do recommend taking some BCAA's before and throughout the workout to maintain your muscle without burning any during the workout. This works well for me so I don't have to worry about interrupting my schedule in the morning and I just focus on eating later in the day. I've still noticed excellent results using IF or the more classic approach so it really depends on your preference and lifestyle. Good luck!
